NATURE IS NURTURE

Surrounded by nature, trees, water, wildlife, and fresh air, Tofte Lake Center offers many distinct spaces for artists to find solitude or work in groups. Others are available for play, gathering for meals, accessing the internet, relaxing, and getting on or in the water. Below are some images to whet your appetite for the unique experience of being in residence at TLC.

“The grounds, cabins, buildings, and most importantly...the lake...oh my that lake...are everything I dreamed about - and more! What a gem! Beautifully done and cared for. The place is the perfect refuge to think clearly and create.”

MEET STANLEY" & ETHEL

We have two loons-in-residence at TLC as well, our devoted “Stanley” and Ethel (and, each year, some new additions, like babies Toon, T-dubs, Claire…)! Each summer season “Stanley” and Ethel return to their home on the lake from their winter down south to mate once again, raise their newest babies, teach them to fish and fly, and send them off at the end of the summer season. Their deposit-souled calls let us know they are our constant companions and guardians of the lake — and we do our best to keep them safe from boaters, fishing lines, and we cross our fingers that they aren’t in danger of other natural predators.

This loon family has generously welcomed us onto Tofte Lake over these past years — even deciding to come visit us at Dock o’Clock from time to time. We are so grateful to be able to experience their presence, spirit, beauty, and eternal grace.

“It has been one of the most amazing experiences in my life. I would love to go back but I don’t want to get greedy. I tell everyone about it!”

— Antonio Vega Barragan, puppeteer
